Introduction

The client is a major European retailer with a majority share of the market in FMCG in their territory. To grow their return on their business they needed to increase their private label penetration and we were chosen as their strategic partner to execute on this ambition.

About our client

The client has experienced rapid growth in their market with over 500 stores and two e-tail sites selling consumer and household goods. With the trend in the consumer moving from off-line to online for consumer goods, our client needed to offer a substantial product range with a reputation for high performance and quality. We were chosen to partner with them on this strategy due to our background in delivering on multiple categories for leading retailers and brands.

Why did they need us?

To grow their private label business our client needed to have a strong and stable partner who had a background in end-to-end product sourcing and delivery, allowing them to focus on the sales and marketing of their core business. With our comprehensive services model, we were able to source the products they required, import them into our client’s territory and ensure that the supply chain and products are compliant to their standards and the territory’s regulatory requirements.

In addition, this process meant removing all of the working capital off the balance sheet of the client – something key that they were looking for that would enable them to better drive their own sales process.

Why did they choose us?

The client needed a global player with a presence in Asia close to the source of product and the supply chain. They were searching for a partner that had a history of bringing the best quality product at the best price to a very cost sensitive consumer. They also needed to scale this project in a relatively short period of time, with aggressive targets set by the wider business, which we were able to commit to deliver.

What solution did we create?

We created a solution for our client that would deliver a good-better-best product range across multiple categories for the consumer, offering a wider variety of products at competitive prices, while also meeting high end design and quality criteria.

What were the results?

In partnership with the client, we were able to launch over 50 new products in twelve months, helping our customer grow their private label business, retain their loyal customers, and increase the brand equity with high quality products at a competitive price.

In a very competitive market with multiple brands and challengers, the products that we have delivered on behalf of our client have grown the profitability of the categories that the client sells and improved the value proposition to the consumer. We continue to grow this private label range with a target to launch 100 incremental products each year.
